How caring are you? How much can you be trusted taking care of someone else, even an inanimate object, let alone a pet? The vast discrepancy between the kind of guilt sparked by abandoning a toy, and the atrocities committed by the Nazis between 19, is what opens up, and where the genius lies in Judith Kerr’s book.Ī perennial for introducing children to the Holocaust, the story works with the animistic worldview, the best of us never totally abandoned as adults. The father Arthur (Masucci), a famous theatre critic, modelled after the author’s father Alfred Kerr, is on Hitler’s hit list, and he and his wife Dorothea (Juri) and two children become refugees, first in Switzerland, then Paris, then London. Pink Rabbit is the story of a well-off Jewish family, the Kempers (Alfred Kerr’s actual family name was Kempner), living in Germany in 1933, the year the Nazis came to power. ![]() Housekeeper Heimpi (Werner) is the lost, doting presence children will remember all life long, the nosy concierge in Paris (Bennent) teaches them about the vileness of neighbourhood gossip, and uncle Julius (von Dohnányi) sends missives from their home country as it loses its soul. She even went undercover as a student in a highschool where only the director of the school knew she was an actress. To prepare for this role, Juri wore the clothes of her character, Helen, for several weeks and spent a lot of this time in Berlin, where her character lives. The novel it is based on was a controversial best seller in Germany. This is arguably the role she is best known for. She also played the leading role in the 2013 film adaptation of Wetlands. In 2013, she was selected to receive the Shooting Star which is awarded annually to ten young European actors at the Berlin International Film Festival. The next year, she won the award for Best Actress for her role in Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari. In 2011, she received the Swiss Film Award in the Best Performance in a Supporting Role category for 180° (2010). Juri's first film appearance was in the short film Midday Room. She maintained a busy schedule trying to find work while making use of her trilinguialism. Juri started her acting career by hopping between auditions in Berlin, London, and Rome. From 2005 until 2010, she studied theater in Los Angeles and London. Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a sculptor In school, she played hockey for HC Ambrì-Piotta and went on to be a forward for the Swiss Schweizer Meister Class A team, SC Reinach. She learned German and Italian as a small child and picked up English at 15. She is fluent in German, English and Italian.
